3 Things You Can Do To Keep Healthy During Your Pregnancy

Posted on

Pregnancy is a beautiful time of life. Many women look forward to a time when they will be able to carry their own child in their womb and deliver a healthy baby. However, just because most people look forward to pregnancy doesn't mean that it is always easy. Pregnancy can be very hard on the woman's body and can bring a series of challenges, but here are some things that you can do to prevent problems.

1. Limit Your Sugar Intake

It is no secret that pregnancy can bring cravings. You might start to crave certain foods that you have never liked, or crave mixing foods together that you normally wouldn't like together. However, even because you are craving something doesn't mean that you need to give into it, especially sugar. Gestational diabetes is a very real problem and can be harmful to both the mother and the baby. Eating too much sugar during pregnancy can put excessive pressure on the pancreas to create more insulin and can harm the body. Although, this doesn't mean that every woman who has gestational diabetes ate too much sugar, many times it is just genetics, but eating too much sugar is never a good idea.

2. Exercise Daily

Weight gain is a given in pregnancy, in fact, it is healthy. You will be advised by your doctor to gain a certain amount of weight to keep the baby healthy. For some, it may only be 10-15 pounds, while for others may be advised to gain 35-45 pounds. But this weight gain should be of healthy fat, not because the mother is choosing not to be active. This doesn't mean that you should start training for a marathon when you find out you are pregnant. That is a unwise choice and can cause more problems. Instead, you should be walking, stretching, even doing some mild weight lifting during pregnancy.

3. Eat Often

In the early stages of your pregnancy you may feel terrible and sick to your stomach. What many women don't realize is that being hungry is one of the surest ways to become sicker during pregnancy. You will become more nauseous if you are hungry, which is why you should be eating small snacks, high in protein, throughout the day. This will prevent your stomach from ever becoming too empty so that you don't become sick.

By doing these things during your pregnancy you can be on route to a happy and healthy 9 months. Talk to an experienced OBGYN, such as Desert Rose OBGYN PC.
