3 Beauty Woes Caused By Pregnancy
Pregnancy is an exciting time. Having a healthy pregnancy is the top priority for most women. But pregnancy can involve a lot of physical and mental changes and challenges. Not only does a woman's body change, but her hormones do as well. Most people are familiar with what's often referred to as the pregnancy glow. While many pregnant women do experience better looks during pregnancy, some can also end up having a few beauty woes during this time. Here are three things that can happen during pregnancy that may make a women feel a little less attractive than usual.
Unwanted Hair Growth
Many women experience fuller, healthier hair during pregnancy. This is great if that hair is on top of the head. Thicker hair growing on the face and body however is usually less desirable. An increase in androgen is usually responsible for the unwanted hair growth during pregnancy. The good news is that most of the unwanted hair disappears within six months of giving birth. If the unwanted hair lingers, there are options such as laser hair removal that can get rid of the extra hair.
Acne
Acne is something that many women thought they left behind after they finished puberty only to find it has come back with a vengeance during pregnancy. Acne is incredibly common with one in two women developing it at some point during their pregnancy. Just like hair growth, acne during pregnancy is caused by an increase in hormone levels. Treating acne during pregnancy can be difficult since many of the medications used for treatment can cause birth defects. For pregnant women, washing the face twice a day with a gentle cleanser is the best treatment. Most acne will resolve itself after the pregnancy is over.
Excessive Sweating
Another problem that many women have is excess sweating. Pit stains and feeling hot and exhausted are symptoms that many pregnant women find themselves dealing with. Sweating during pregnancy is caused by a combination of increased blood flow and metabolism as well as a slightly higher body temperature. Increases in hormones are also partly responsible for these hot flashes. There isn't much that can be done to treat excess sweating. However, it is important for pregnant women to stay hydrated if they are sweating more than usual.
Pregnancy can leave some women feeling like they don't look their best. The good news is that most of these issues resolve themselves a few months after birth.
